FREMONT, Neb. -- Despite outhitting Midland University, 14-13, the Bellevue University baseball team was plagued by five fielding errors as the Warriors handed BU a 14-8 non-conference loss Tuesday afternoon at Moller Field.
The second-ranked Bruins fell to 40-8 on the season, while Midland improved to 34-15 overall.
The five errors were a season-high for Bellevue, as only half of the Warriors' runs were earned.
The Bruins had five players with multiple hits, led by Ross Feeley's 3-for-4 performance. Derik Bontempo drove in five runs in the contest.
After BU took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Warriors erupted for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning with only one run being earned.
Both teams scored in each of the first four innings.
With the Bruins trailing 10-3, Bontempo's three-run homer brought BU to within four runs in the top of the third. That was as close as the Bruins would get as MU cruised to the 14-8 victory.
Connor Chick suffered the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits with two strikeouts in 0.2 innings on the mound.
The Bruins will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. this Friday and Saturday for a four-game conference series at Presentation College. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and Saturday's twinbill will commence at noon.
