LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Cornerstone University scored multiple runs in five of seven innings en route to a 12-3 victory over Bellevue University Friday afternoon at the Warner University Invitational.
Bellevue fell to 15-4 on the season with the loss. Cornerstone improved to 3-12 overall.
The Golden Eagles grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run double by Jacob Klemme and a ground-out RBI by Travis Gordon.
The Bruins tied it up at 3-3 in the bottom of the third on a one-run single to right field by Colton Nash and a two-run infield single by Derik Bontempo.
CU quickly responded in the top of the fourth, regaining the lead at 5-3, following a two-run homer by Adam Harvey.
A two-run single by Klemme, an RBI single by Gordon and a one-run single by Harvey pushed the Golden Eagle lead to 9-3 in the top of the fifth frame.
Gordon drove in three more runs in the top of the sixth with a double to left center field, to make the final, 12-3.
Zach Larrison (0-2) suffered the loss, scattering four hits with one strikeout and one walk, while giving up five runs in four innings on the mound.
Ben Scheckler (2-1) earned the win, allowing six hits and three runs, while striking out nine and walking one in seven-complete innings of work.
Gordon, Klemme and Harvey drove in all 12 of the Golden Eagles' runs in the game.
The Bruins will conclude action at the nine-team tournament on Saturday. Pairings will be announced later Friday night.
