LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Trevor Jones and Jake Browne each hit a pair of home runs and Braulio Torres-Perez fired a no-hitter to lead No. 12 Bellevue University to a convincing 23-0 victory over St. Ambrose.
Torres-Perez (4-0, 1.47) only blemishes came as the result of a pair of walks. He struck out 10 in notching the no-no.
BU has now won four straight to improve to 15-3 on the season. During their current win streak, they have outscored their opposition by a 43-3 margin. St. Ambrose falls to 4-8 with their fourth-straight loss.
The Bruins scored in six of the game's seven innings, including scoring at least three runs in five of those innings. BU hit a total of six home runs on the afternoon led by Jones and Browne's two each while Joe Mancuso and Gabriel De La Rosa also went deep for the purple and gold.
Scoring commenced in the top of the first with the first of Browne's homers being a grand slam over the left field wall to put BU up 4-0.
BU tacked on six more runs in each the second and third innings. The third inning saw Jones hit the first of his home runs and Browne knock a three-run shot over the fence in left center to put the Bruins up 16-0 before St. Ambrose was able to make its way through the lineup once.
The Bruins struck for another run in the fourth and three more – courtesy of a two-run home run from De La Rosa and a solo job from Jones – to claim a 20-0 advantage.
Scoring concluded following a three-run sixth and was capped off by a two-run home run off the bat of Mancuso.
The score accounted for the Bruins' largest margin of victory since a 24-0 triumph over Winnipeg on Apr. 11, 2014.
Browne recorded 10 RBI on the afternoon – the second-most in the NAIA this season – and now has a team-leading three home runs and is second on the club with 19 RBI. Colton Nash's four-RBI day now give him a team-leading 10 on the year.
Bellevue pounded out 19 hits against the Fighting Bees and saw six players record at least two hits including three who had three.
Bellevue plays again at 3:30 p.m. against Cornerstone in the final game of the Warner Tournament's first round.
