BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue baseball team, under head coach Duane Monlux, has announced today the signing of Matt Evans (Omaha, Neb./New Mexico State U./Millard North HS) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue in the fall of 2015.

Evans, a versatile 5-foot 8-inch infielder, played two seasons at Division I New Mexico State where he appeared in 44 games with 15 starts. Evans hit .191 in 47 career at-bats with a double and three runs batted in. He showed a keen eye at the dish, posting a .366 on-base percentage by drawing seven walks and six hit-by-pitches.

Evans received a medical redshirt for this past season following a wrist injury he suffered at New Mexico State. He appeared in just eight games, with four starts, prior to the injury.

Coach Monlux on Evans:

"We are excited to have signed Matt to a letter of intent. It's always nice to sign quality players from right here in the Omaha area. Matt was a very good high school baseball player. He was able to receive a medical redshirt for the 2015 season after a wrist injury sidelined him at New Mexico State University. He has three years of eligibility left for his time at Bellevue University. He is a quality infielder that is very versatile. He could see multiple roles for us this year in the infield."

Bellevue went 46-15 (18-6 MCAC) this past season while winning the final MCAC Tournament and hosting the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The Bruins reached the final game in the Opening Round Tournament before falling to Tabor College.
