VALLEY CITY, N.D. -- The No. 3 Bellevue University baseball team swept a North Star Athletic Association doubleheader at Valley City State University on Monday afternoon to complete a four-game series sweep of the home-standing Vikings. Bellevue took an 8-6 extra-inning win in the opener before grabbing the nightcap, 8-1.

Bellevue improves to 36-6 (14-1 NSAA) and runs their win streak to eight games. Valley City dips to 16-26 (7-9 NSAA) following the sweep.

The Bruins' next scheduled games are this weekend against Waldorf University. The Bruins host the Warriors in doubleheaders on both Saturday (1 p.m. at Westgate Field) and Sunday (noon at Roddy Field) for Senior Day.

Game One:

Bellevue rallied from a three-run deficit to force extra innings in game one before coming away with a pair of runs in the eighth for an 8-6 victory.

Trailing by a run in the seventh inning, Kevin Rodriguez tripled to right to breathe life into the Bruins. During Trevor Jones' ensuing at-bat Rodriguez raced home on a wild pitch to tie the game at 6-6 and force extras.

In the decisive eighth inning, Joe Moran showed off his speed. He led off with a single up the middle, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Two batters later he came cruising in on a wild pitch to give the Bruins the lead when Colton Nash drew a walk. Back-to-back singles from Jake Browne and Matt Evans advanced and score Nash for an insurance run.

Valley jumped to an early lead with a two-run first inning, courtesy of Jake Rambow's two-run single.

Twice the Vikings established three-run leads (4-1 and 6-3) but the Bruins were able to battle back on a day where the offenses thrived. There were 28 hits in the contest, with BU out-hitting VCSU 15-13.

Leland Tilley (7-1, 2.25) worked a pair of scoreless innings of relief, escaping a jam in the seventh, to pick up the win. He struck out four, issued one walk, and allowed a pair of hits.

Starter Braulio Torres-Perez went four innings and didn't factor in the decision. He surrendered six runs on nine hits and three walks. He struck out seven.

Game Two:

Bellevue fell behind again in the night-cap after spotting Valley City an early run but once again recovered to claim an 8-1 victory.

Back-to-back singles to start the game for the Vikings put runners at the corners. Brady Anderson took advantage, reaching on a fielder's choice to bring in the game's first run.

Bellevue knotted things up in the third with a two-out RBI-triple from Joe Moran to score Trevor Jones.

An inning later Bellevue grabbed the lead, scoring a pair of runs. Kevin Rodriguez delivered an RBI-single and Trevor Jones followed up with a deep sac fly to extend the Bellevue advantage to 3-1.

The Bruins pushed across five runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by RBI singles from Ross Feeley and Derik Bontempo, giving BU an 8-1 lead.

Starter Aaron Bain (3-0) went six innings to earn the win. He allowed six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
