PERU, Neb. -- The No. 2 Bellevue University baseball team jumped on the Bobcats early en route to a 9-5 victory over Peru State College on Monday afternoon at Centennial Field in non-conference action.

The Bruins improve to 40-7 with their 12th win in their last 13 game while Peru State dips to 18-28 on the season.

For Bellevue it is the fifth-straight season – and 22nd season overall – in which they have reached the 40-win plateau.

Bellevue opened the scoring in the third inning as they batted around. Ross Feeley got the Bruins on the board with a sac fly and two batters later Derik Bontempo hit a two-run home run out to right field.  Following a walk and a hit batter Austin Wallace doubled to right center to score a pair of runs to push the Bruin lead to 6-0.

Peru State got a run back in the bottom of the third on a two-out single from Kadyn Glass.

The Bruins restored to their six-run lead in the fourth after Feeley drew a two-out walk and Joe Moran followed with a single to drive him in.

The Bobcats wasted no time responding with a two-run fourth inning to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Bellevue added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Moran scored on a wild pitch and Bontempo came home on Jake Browne's sac fly.

Tony Monroy (2-1) earned the win for the Bruins. He threw seven innings and was charged with allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two.

John Timmins worked a pair of innings to preserve the win.

Christian Sanchez (0-1) took the loss in relief for Peru State.

Bellevue is slated to return to the diamond on Wednesday, Apr. 27 with a 2:30 p.m. game at Midland University.
