Bruins sign RHP Robbie Ayres

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue baseball team, under head coach Duane Monlux, has announced today the signing of Robbie Ayres (Fort Mohave, Ariz./Scottsdale CC /River Valley HS) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue in the fall of 2015.

Ayres, a 6-4, 190 pound reliever, played two seasons at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona. The right-handed sidewinder appeared in 29 games for Scottsdale, working 26.0 innings and posting a 2.07 earned run average.

This past season Ayres logged 17.0 innings over 20 appearances and struck out 16 batters while putting up a 2.65 ERA. He also recorded a career-high three saves.

Coach Monlux on Bontempo:

"Robbie is a great student, good person, and solid pitcher. He will be a very nice addition to the program here at Bellevue University. He is a sidearm pitcher that was a mainstay in the bullpen for Scottsdale the last two seasons. His team advanced to the NJCAA II World Series this past season. He gained valuable experience in the national post season. We are hoping he brings that experience to Bellevue as we try to make a push at the NAIA World Series this upcoming year."

Bellevue went 46-15 (18-6 MCAC) this past season while winning the final MCAC Tournament and hosting the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The Bruins reached the final game in the Opening Round Tournament before falling to Tabor College.
