Siedlik signs Dubuque Wahlert setter, Beth Walker
Bruin head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 5-8 setter Beth Walker (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Wahlert Catholic HS) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2012. Walker is the first signee of the 2012 class.

Walker, the daughter of Steve and Jane Walker, led Dubuque Wahlert to a semifnal appearance in the 2011 Iowa Class 3A State Tournament, while earning all-district and all-conference honors, as well as third team Iowa Girls Coaches Association all-state accolades. She was also a two-time team captain for the Eagles.

"We are very excited to see the talent that Beth has to offer our program," said Siedlik. "Not only will she grow as a player here, but she will make us better with competition.  Winning breeds winning and Beth is as competitive as they get," added Siedlik.

She finished her senior season with 887 assists, 296 digs, and 106 kills. Walker played club volleyball for the Dubuque Volleyball Club and was coached by her sister, Emily. Her club team qualified for Junior Nationals in Dallas in 2008.

A four-sport standout at Wahlert, Walker earned letters in volleyball, basketball, track and softball. She was an honorable mention all-state selection in basketball and a three-time state qualifier in track, helping Wahlert to the 2011 state title.

"You are getting a great player but an even better person," said Wahlert head coach Jan Thyne.  "Beth is extremely competitive and intense when it comes to volleyball. Her work ethic in unmatched among her teammates.  She is also humble and down to earth.  She is the player who helps the under class players, she is setting up and tearing nets before and after practice.  She stays after practice until she masters a skill," added Thyne.

Walker's sister, Lisa, was a four-year standout for the Bruins from 1998-01, earning all-conference honors while finishing her career ninth in school history with 1,358 kills. Walker has seven siblings, (Matt, Trisha, Lisa, Sarah, Travis, Emily, and Jared).

Bellevue finished the 2011 season with a No. 25 final national ranking, winning the 2011 MCAC Tournament title after finishing second in the MCAC regular season. The Bruins advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the fifth-straight season.
