Wardian, Wurdeman named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Friday that 392 volleyball student-athletes have been named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Two Bruins were named to the exclusive team, including seniors Maureen Wardian and Ashley Wurdeman.

Student-athletes are nominated by their institution’s head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.

It was the second NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor for Wardian after also earning the award in 2010.

Wardian is majoring in computer graphic design, while Wurdeman is a sports management/business major.

Bellevue finished the 2011 season with a No. 25 final national ranking, winning the 2011 MCAC Tournament title after finishing second in the MCAC regular season. The Bruins advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the fifth-straight season.
