BISMARCK, N.D. -- Bellevue University sophomore Maria Pinedo (Neiva, Colombia), after winning the Nebraska Collegiate this past weekend, earned North Star Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Week honors on Wednesday.
The award is the first of Pinedo's Bruin career and comes just days after she mounted a massive comeback to win the Nebraska Intercollegiate.
Entering the final round trailing by five strokes, Pinedo carded a second round-best 6-over 78. Her lone birdie of the round on No. 7, a par 3, proved the difference as she bested a pair of Wayne State golfers to claim a one-shot victory.
With just three golfers at the event, Bellevue did not enter the team competition. However, all three competing Bruins placed in the top 10.
Following some re-working of the schedule, Bellevue next competes at the Grand View Invitational on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 10-11 at Otter Creek Golf Club in Ankeny, Iowa.
