Abigail Harvey

  • Title:
    Team Manager

Abigail Harvey joined the Bruin softball program on Nov. 29, 2018 when she was selected at a special public "Draft Day" ceremony.

Abigail came in as a prized recruit and has not disappointed. Her infectious smile and personality have served the team well both in the dugout and off the field. Just last season, her first with the team, she helped the Bruins to a 44-20 overall record as the program made its 10th appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.

From Plattsmouth, Neb., Abigail was diagnosed in utero with Spina Bifida, a serious birth defect that can result in major physical and developmental disabilities. Abigail has undergone 20-plus surgeries during her life.

Thanks to Boston-headquartered non-profit Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of teamwork, and the Bellevue University softball team, Abigail will become an official member of the Bruins softball team when she signs her letter of intent at the Nov. 29 event. As a team member, Abigail will attend Bruins practices, games, team dinners, events and more.

"Our team is so excited to have been given this opportunity to partner with Team Impact and the Harvey family," said Coach Michala Cimino. "Abigail, who is 7 years old, will be the newest member of our team when she signs her letter of intent on November 29. This will be a big day for our softball program and our University to show Abigail and her family that we are here to support them all the way and knowing that we can help by putting a big smile on her face."

About Team IMPACT

Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched nearly 1,600 children with more than 500 colleges and universities in 49 states, reaching over 50,000 participating student-athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student-athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student-athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
