Bruins sign Omaha South's Mendoza

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head men's soccer coach Mark Heath-Preston announced today the signing of Alan Mendoza (Omaha, Neb./Omaha South HS) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.

Mendoza comes to BU from Omaha South High School where he was a four-year member of the Packers' varsity soccer program, coached by Joe Maas. He plays his club soccer for Nebraska Futbol Club, coached by former Bruin head coach Matt Briggs and David Amdor.

Last season, Mendoza posted a 20-1-0 record in goal guiding Omaha South to a thrilling shootout victory over Creighton Prep in the Nebraska Class A State Championship for South's third State Championship in the past seven seasons. He totaled 45 saves and 10 shutouts to go along with a 0.75 goals against average.

With NFC, Mendoza won a trio of Nebraska Club State Championships and qualified for Nationals in 2017 after winning the Midwest Regional.

In the classroom, Mendoza was a four-year member of Omaha South's honor roll and a HACE Scholar.

Mendoza joins earlier signees Alvaro Capra (Santiago, Chile/Iowa Lakes CC), Mario Ivanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/Southeastern CC), Oumar Sissoko (Bamako, Mali/Western Nebraska CC), Ruben Bande (London, England/Cox Green), Zach Robbins (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska-Omaha), Gabriel Gaiotto (Piracicaba, Brazil), and Tibor Stankovic (Osijek, Croatia/Illinois Central) in the Bruins' 2020 recruiting class.

This past season Bellevue posted an 8-10-2 overall record and reached the A.I.I. Championship Match for the second-straight season. Among the season highlights were the Bruins' 2-1 win over National Champion Central Methodist and a 1-1 draw with National Runner-Up Hastings.
