German midfielder Roesler signs with BU

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's soccer team, under Mark Heath-Preston, announced today the signing of Joel Roesler (Mainz-Kastel, Hessen, Germany) to a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2019.

Roesler is the son of Michael and Stephanie Roesler and will be an incoming freshman. He plays his club football at TSV Schott Mainz under the guidance of Jockel Weinz. Football runs through the Roesler family; his brother, David, formerly played professionally in the Switzerland with Wil 1900.

Among the honors that Roesler has earned are being awarded best midfielder at the IBA-Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2013 and winning the U15 Regionalliga Sudwest Championship with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2014.

Coach Heath-Preston on Roesler:

"We are excited to bring in Joel for the fall to add to our array of attacking options. He will be a key figure and a great character to add to the roster."

Roesler joins earlier signees Eli Brown (Lincoln, Neb.), Jan Scheiwiler (Diessenhofen, Switzerland), Brandon Hardy (Huddersfield, England), Frederick Umani Ronchi (Segrate, Milan, Italy), Ramy Katit (Frankfurt, Germany), and Andy Janssen (Lincoln, England) in the Bruins' 2019 recruiting class.

BU completed the first unbeaten regular season in school history in 2018 en route to a final record of 18-2-2. The Bruins reached the A.I.I. Championship Game, hosted an NAIA National Tournament Opening Round match for the first time, and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament Round of 16.
