Bellevue edged by Midland, 1-0

FREMONT, Neb. -- Robert Wiseman's 41st minute goal was the only offense in this one as the Bellevue University men's soccer team fell to #18 Midland University, 1-0 on Saturday evening in non-conference action at Heedum Field.

Midland improves to 3-2-0 with the victory while the Bruins drop to 2-3-1 with the tough luck loss.

Midland doubled up the BU shot total in the first half but it took until the 41st minute for the home-standing Warriors to break through with the game's first, and only, goal. Mario Bueso sent in a cross from the right side to Wiseman to took aim at the near post and found the back of the net with a left-footed shot for his first goal of the season.

Bellevue put five shots on goal to just two for Midland but the Bruins were unable to find the back of the net. The Warriors out-shot BU 9-7 overall and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks for the match.

BU's Harry Wray stopped one of the two shots on target that he faced while Midland's Shazz Heale turned away all five Bellevue attempts on frame.

Bellevue head coach Mark Heath-Preston cited defender Andy Wilkinson as Bellevue's "Man of the Match". He spoke especially highly of several other individuals, saying, "Jacob Pease and Edgar Guzman worked hard." Of the match as a whole, Heath-Preston said, "We felt we deserved more out of the game. It was a better collective performance. Andres Blanco did well off the bench and Alex Gomez did well in his first collegiate start.'

The Bruins play their home-opener on Wednesday, Sept. 13 when they host Briar Cliff University at 5:30 p.m. at Bellevue Soccer Club.
