BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University men's soccer senior midfielder Tobias Maertzke (Hamburg, Germany) has been named the North Star Athletic Association's Offensive Player of the Week for his performance last week.
In a pair of matches for Bellevue, Maertzke scored four of the Bruins' five goals and assisted on the other to lead BU to a 3-2 win at Northwestern and a 2-2 draw at No. 15 Ashford.
Maertzke got his week off to a quality start with a first half hat trick in the win at Northwestern to rally Bellevue from an early 1-0 deficit. It was his second career hat trick for the Bruins with the other coming last August in a win at St. Ambrose. In the road draw at Ashford Maertzke scored a late equalizer and assisted on the go=ahead goal.
He now has a team-high five goals and a team co-leading two assists on the year. Maertzke ranks second in the North Star in both goals and poitns (12). Bellevue is unbeaten in their last three contests with a pair of wins and a draw in that time.
The 14th-ranked Bruins (5-1-2) next play on Wednesday when they travel to Fremont, Neb. for a 7 p.m. match against Midland. They'll return home on Sunday, Sept. 27 when they host Morningside at 3 p.m.at Bellevue Soccer Club.
