BELLEVUE, Neb. - The Bellevue University men's soccer program, under head coach Matt Briggs, has announced the signing of Matthew Robbins (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Burke HS) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2015.

The son of Amy, Robbins was coached by Nick Bratt at Omaha Burke High School where he will serve as a team captain this spring after being named most improved player last season. Over the past two seasons Omaha Burke has posted a 20-12-0 record with Robbins at right back. He has recorded a pair of assists in his high school career.

Robbins was named an Honorable Mention all-state selection last season and earned distinction as an Academic all-state pick. He'll look to major in biology at Bellevue

Robbins played club soccer for current Bellevue head coach Matt Briggs for 402 Evolution where he is a captain for that club as well. He becomes Bellevue's second signee in the 2015 recruiting class.

Robbins' versatility is a tool that Coach Briggs looks forward to employing in the coming seasons saying, "We are delighted to have signed such a talented local player in Matt Robbins. He is a fantastic player who can play either full back or center back. He is very good technically, good athletically, and possesses a great attitude and work rate. We would expect Matt to push for playing time right away."

As his club coach, Briggs has enjoyed watching the progression and development of Robbins, adding that, "I have been very lucky to work with Matt in club soccer for four years and see him develop into a wonderful player. I am now excited to watch him develop further as both a player and young man."

Robbins joins earlier signee Jacob Krug (Plattsmouth, Neb./Plattsmouth HS) in the 2015 recruiting class.

Bellevue owns a 15-2-2 record on the season and is ranked No. 14 in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll. They defeated Hastings College in the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round this past Saturday. The Bruins will next play on Monday, Dec. 1 when they take on Vanguard (Calif.) in the NAIA National Tournament Second Round at 12:30 p.m. in Del Ray Beach, Fla.
