CRETE, Neb. - Rob Smith (Lincoln, England) tallied a pair of goals and assisted on another to help the Bellevue University men's soccer team claim its first victory of the 2014 season, a 4-1 win over Doane College on Wednesday evening at Al Papik Field.

With the victory, Bellevue improved to 1-1-0 on the season while Doane dropped to 0-3-0 on the year with the loss.

Bellevue struck first in the second minute when sophomore Lee Woolmore (Norfolk, England) headed home Smith's cross.

The Tigers answered in the 12th minute when Gabe Garbin netted the equalizer. Smith netted a goal of his own just over five minutes later when he took a pass from senior Vinny Braga (Sao Paolo, Brazil) to allow BU to reclaim a one-goal advantage at 2-1.

Braga sealed the victory in the 65th minute when he gave Bellevue some breathing room with his first goal of the campaign.

If any doubt remained, Smith eliminated it with his second goal of the match in the 90th minute after taking a pass from senior Kristopher McFadyen (Glasgow, Scotland) to beat Tiger keeper Casey Clarke.

For the match, Bellevue held a 15-8 advantage in shots while also gaining four corner kicks compared to just two for the Tigers.

Sophomore Ben Martin (Lincolnshire, England) made a pair saves in goal for the Bruins to pick up his first victory of the season. Doane had numerous chances, but aside from their first-half goal, was unable to best Martin.

The victory is the ninth in a row for Bellevue over Doane as they remain perfect with a 9-0-0 mark in the series all-time.

The Bruins will be back in action on Saturday, Aug. 30 when they travel to Davenport, Iowa to take on St. Ambrose University at 2:30 p.m.
