Men's soccer inks Escobar for 2013 season

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University men's soccer coach Matt Briggs announced today the signing of Agustin Escobar (Medellin, Colombia/Colegio Canadiense) to the 2013 recruiting class. Escobar will begin his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning this fall.

Escobar, attended Colegio Canadiense under head coach Jorge Mejia and scored 19 goals last season.

"We are delighted to add Agustin to our recruiting class," said Briggs. "Agustin is a very technical attacking player and is comfortable playing in wide areas or straight through the middle of the park."

A native of Medellin, Colombia, Escobar is the son of Luis Escobar and Eugenia Arenas, and is majoring in business management at Bellevue.

"We are excited to see him add a little extra quality upfront and increase competition for places in the starting eleven this upcoming season," added Briggs.

Escobar joins earlier signees Scott Robertson (Burnley, England), Emiliano Jacinto (Omaha, Neb.), David Goolsby (Bellevue, Neb), Jack Coles (Cardiff, Wales), Lee Willmore (Norfolk, England), Jake Williams (Hale, England) and Ben Martin (Lincolnshire, England) in this year's recruiting class.

Bellevue ended the 2012 season with a 10-8-1 overall record. The Bruins finished second in the MCAC regular season standings with a 5-1 conference mark and also placed second in the MCAC Tournament to No. 3-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
