OMAHA, Neb. -- Sixth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University defeated Bellevue University, 2-1, Saturday at Tranquility Park, to capture the MCAC regular season title as both teams entered the contest undefeated in league play.
Bellevue fell to 9-7-1 on the season with the loss and 5-1 in the MCAC. Oklahoma Wesleyan improved to 17-0-1 overall and 6-0 in league action.
Pairings and times for the MCAC Tournament will be announced on Monday (Oct. 29). The Bruins will host a first round game on Friday, Nov. 2.
OWU got on the board quickly, scoring on an own goal just 1:28 into the contest. Graeme Eaglesham tied the game at 1-1 at 4:19, scoring his team-leading eighth goal of the season on a penalty kick.
The Eagles regained the lead at 27:39 with a goal by Roberto Gallegos off a pass from Lucas Cordeiro.
Neither team managed a goal in the second half.
Senior Juan Cale registered eight saves in the loss, falling to 2-1 on the season.
The Eagles held a 21-12 advantage in shots and a 10-6 margin in shots on goal.
