Bruins squeak past Westminster, 2-1

OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior Tom White scored in the 79th minute to give the Bellevue University men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Westminster College Friday afternoon in the Unaffiliated Group Tournament semifinals at Tranquility Park.

The top-seeded Bruins (13-5-1) will battle second-seeded University of Great Falls at 5 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 13). UGF edged Rocky Mountain College, 1-0, in double overtime in the first semifinal. The tournament champion will receive an automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament.

David Lastra scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 31st minute on a shot from the top of the box that hooked into top right corner of the net past Griffin goalkeeper Damir Sabanovic. James Evison was credited with the assist.

Westminster's Nic Duncan tied the game at 74:57 on a penalty kick that sailed past Bruin goalkeeper Sebastian Narvaez.

White's game-winning goal came three minutes later on an attacking drive down the middle of the field, finishing with a shot over Sabanovic's head.

Bellevue outshot WC 15-3 and held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Narvaez improved to 12-5-1 on the season, recording one save while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
