Lastra, Kirkland earn MCAC weekly honors

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- Sophomore forward David Lastra and senior Kyle Kirkland helped the Bellevue University men's soccer team sweep the weekly MCAC Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sept. 12. Lastra was named the MCAC Offensive Player of the Week and Kirkland earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Lastra scored a goal in each of Bellevue’s victories last week—a 3-2 double overtime win over Fresno Pacific University and a 3-0 shutout over Southern Nazarene University. In the double overtime victory over FPU, Lastra notched the gamewinner with just 31 seconds remaining in the contest.

A defender, Kirkland scored two goals in Bellevue's 3-2 win over Fresno Pacific. He anchored the Bruin defense which recorded its fourth shutout of the year in the 3-0 win over Southern Nazarene.

Bellevue (5-0) is ranked No. 21 in the latest NAIA National Poll and will entertain No. 10-ranked Hastings College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Tranquility Park.
