Lastra goal gives Bruins win in second OT

HASTINGS, Neb. -- Sophomore forward David Lastra scored in the last minute of double overtime to give the 21st-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 win over Fresno Pacific University Friday night in the Hastings College Classic.

The Bruins improved to 4-0 on the year while the Sun Birds fell to 1-3 overall.

Lastra's game-winning goal came on a header off a rebound from FPU goal keeper Gildardo Villaruel in the game's 120th minute.

The Sunbirds built a 2-0 lead in the first half with unassisted goals by Julian Mattaliano and Paul Islas.

Bellevue got on the board seven minutes into the second half on a goal by Kyle Kirkland following a volley into the goal off a rebound from FPU starting goal keeper Steven Waite.

Kirkland tied the score 14 minutes later with his second goal of the game at the 66:55 mark. Neither team scored again until Lastra's game winner with just 31 seconds remaining in the second overtime.

Senior Ryan Cantello was credited will all three of the Bruin assists.

Senior Sebastian Narvaez improved to 3-0 on the season, giving up his first two goals of the season, while recording one save. He played all 119 plus minutes of the contest.

Bellevue will conclude play in the tournament on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Southern Nazarene.
