Men's Golf finishes 23rd at Nationals; Johnson makes cut

DALTON, Ga. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team finished in 23rd place and did not make the cut after two rounds of play at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship being played at the 7,043-yard, par-72 Dalton Golf and Country Club. However, freshman Sam Johnson advanced after posting one of the best rounds of the tournament. 

The top 15 teams and the top six individuals who were not a part of one of the top 15 squads advanced to Thursday and Friday's final two rounds. 

The Bruins improved on Tuesday's opening-round team score by 12 strokes, registering a 19-over par 307 on the day to put them at 50-over par for the tournament. 

Johnson fired a 1-under par 71, is 6-over par for the tournament, and is currently in a tie for 23rd place in the individual standings. He had six birdies on the day, including three straight on the front nine, where he finished with a 3-under par score of 33. 

Totte Uhlan was just one stroke away from advancing after carding an even-par 72. He finished 7-over par after two rounds, putting him in a tie for 29th place. His round was sparked by five birdies and eight pars. 

Cayden Wynne shot an 11-over 83 and finished in a tie for 102nd place at 15-over par for 36 holes. He had eight pars on the day. 

Randy Christiansen recorded an 11-over 83 in the second round, putting him at 24-over for the tournament and in a tie for 144th place. He collected nine pars in his round.

Dylan Rodgers tallied a 9-over 81 on Wednesday and finished the tournament at 25-over par. He placed 146th. Rodgers had one birdie and 10 pars in the second round. 

In the team race, Texas Wesleyan holds a four-shot lead over Dalton State and an eight-stroke advantage over first-round leader Keiser University after posting a team score of 6-over par 294. The Rams are 13-over par for the tournament (295-294) 

Truett-McConnell's Peyton Shedd is the individual leader at 2-under par after shooting identical rounds of 71. He leads Webber International's Vedant Sirohi by one stroke. 

Thursday's third round begins at 8 a.m. ET on split tees, with the final round scheduled for 7:30 a.m. ET on Friday.
