FULTON, Mo. - Senior Thomas Hammock (Compton, Calif.) led four Bellevue University players in double figures as the men's basketball team defeated William Woods University 90-63 on Saturday evening.
Ranked sixth nationally Bellevue (5-0) connected on 52.9 percent of their field goal attempts and held the Owls (1-4) to just 37.7 percent shooting. The Bruins raced out to a 37-25 half-time lead before posting a 53-38 edge in the second half.
Senior Percy Lemle (Carson, Calif.), junior Pogos Trunyan (Sacramento, Calif.), and senior Alex Worthen-Harris (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 14, 12, and 11 points, respectively.
Led by Hammock and Trunyan who were 5-of-6 and 4-of-6 on their three point attempts, respectively, Bellevue shot a blistering 64.7 percent from long range. Bellevue also held a significant 41-31 edge in rebounding, led by Worthen-Harris and junior Anthony Rounds (Perris, Calif.), each of whom pulled down six boards.
In the hustle points department the Bruins held a sizable 38-14 edge, outscoring the Owls 21-6 off turnover and 17-8 in second chance opportunities.
In what was billed as a demonstration in depth and a total team effort the Bellevue bench out-scored the William Woods bench 52-23, essentially the difference in the game.
The 27-point margin of victory is Bellevue's largest since a 97-66 win over Haskell Indian Nations University in the quarterfinals of last season's Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Bruins will return to the hardwood on Monday, Nov. 24 with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against Hope International University at the Hope Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
