MITCHELL, S.D. - Junior Taylor Young (Hawthorne, Calif.) hit on 14 of his 16 free throw attempts on his way to scoring a career-best 28 points and dished out eight assists to lead the Bellevue University basketball team to an 84-71 victory over Mayville State University at the Dakota Wesleyan Classic on Friday afternoon.

Bellevue (3-0) won their 10th straight regular season game since a loss at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Feb. 1, 2014. Mayville State falls to 1-2 with the loss.

After falling behind 26-17 at the 7:53 mark the Bruins used a 24-8 run, which saw six different players score, to close the first half and claim a 41-34 lead at the half-time break.

Mayville State would pull within five at 41-36 with 19:40 to play but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way. Bellevue stretched their lead to as many as 20 at 71-51 with 7:55 remaining and held a comfortable double-digit lead for the vast majority of the second half.

Seniors Alex Worthen-Harris (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Dimitri Chonis (Tucson, Ariz.) joined Young in double figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively, while Worthen-Harris pulled down a game-high eight rebounds as the Bruins held a narrow 32-31 edge on the glass.

Junior Anthony Rounds (Perris, Calif.) contributed seven points and four rebounds in a team-high 17 minutes off the bench.

The Bruins will return to the hardwood tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. match-up with the University of Jamestown.
