BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Junior Ousseynou Diop and senior Eugene Bain both posted double-doubles to lead the eighth-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team to a 79-67 victory over York College Friday night in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The Bruins improved to 22-5 overall and 9-2 in the MCAC. York dropped to 11-13 overall and 4-6 in league play. Bellevue maintained its half-game lead in the conference standings with the win.

Diop posted his second-straight and fourth overall double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Bain recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds for his team-leading 10th double-double of the season. 

Senior Avery Tyler added 15 points, six rebounds and two assists. Junior Jelani Johnson was the fourth Bruin in double figures with 10 points, while adding a game-high four assists.

York was led by Corey Standerfer, who registered 14 points and seven rebounds. Gary Matthews Jr. added 12 points and 10 boards.

Neither team established control in the early going which featured three ties and five lead changes in the opening 10 minutes. Tied at 18-all, a pair of 3-pointers from Jeremy Arrington sparked an 11-2 Bruin run to give BU a 29-20 advantage with six minutes remaining in the half.

Two-straight 3-pointers from Leonard Epps pulled the Panthers to within three points at 29-26 at the 5:35 mark. Another 3-pointer from Epps helped York climb to within two points at 33-31 with four minutes remaining in the first period.

Diop scored six points in the final four minutes of the half and Tyler connected on a short jumper just before the buzzer as Bellevue took a 43-35 lead at the intermission.

Diop led the Bruins in the first half with 14 points and four rebounds. Tyler added nine points and four boards. Epps paced York with 11 points, while Standerfer collected 10 points and five rebounds.

A pair of free throws from Diop and a short jumper from Bain gave Bellevue a 13-point advantage at 53-40 with 14:48 remaining in the contest. The Panthers used a 10-1 run over the next three minutes to pull to within four points (54-50) at the 11:41 mark.

A thunderous dunk by Tyler capped an 11-3 BU spurt as the Bruins built a 65-53 lead with nine minutes left in the game. A dunk by James Parrott and layup from Johnson gave BU its largest lead at 78-61 with 3:24 remaining in the game. York closed the game on a 6-1 run to make the final, 79-67.

The Bruins will conclude the home portion of the regular season with a 5 p.m. game against Central Christian College on Saturday (Feb. 12). The Tigers defeated Bellevue, 92-88, on Jan. 22 in McPherson, Kan. The Bruins four seniors, Bain, Jeremy Cruise, Tyler, and Avery Walker will all be honored just prior to tipoff.
