Bruins pull out 83-67 win over York

YORK, Neb. -- The 11th-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team overcame a sluggish start and junior \#Avery Tyler\# scored 15 second-half points as the Bruins pulled out an 83-67 win over York College in MCAC action Friday night at the Freeman Center.

The Bruins improved to 20-7 on the season and maintained a one-game lead in the conference standings, improving to 8-1 in the MCAC. York fell to 10-15 overall and 2-8 in the league.

The win also gave Bellevue their 10th-straight 20-win season.

Tyler led four Bruins in double figures with 19 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists. Senior \#Antoine Dade\# recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Senior \#Jace Fredenburg\# added 18 points and sophomore \#Jelani Johnson\# had 10.

Desmond Strickland led York with 17 points.

Bellevue shot just 37.3 percent in the game but held a 28-6 advantage in free throws.

A 3-pointer by the Panthers' Darren Best gave York a 20-11 lead with 11:41 to go in the opening period.

Strickland gave the Panthers their largest lead of the game at 13 points (30-17) with a 3-pointer at the 8:17 mark in the first half.

A 3-pointer by Fredenburg and a pair of 3's by \#Ron King\# fueled a 16-1 run over the next three minutes as the Bruins stormed back to take a 33-31 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the opening half.

York, however, closed the opening period on an 8-3 run to take a 39-36 advantage into the intermission.

Best led York in opening 20 minutes with 11 points, while Strickland added nine. Fredenburg paced the Bruins' in the first period with eight points while Dade added seven points and five rebounds.

York built a six-point advantage at 58-52 midway through the second period before five points by Dade keyed a 7-0 Bruin run, giving BU a 59-58 edge with eight minutes left in the game.

After trading the next several baskets, Bellevue pulled away going on a 16-7 spurt over the next five minutes to take a 10-point lead at 75-65 with three minutes remaining in the contest.

Bellevue nailed four free throws in the final minute to seal the 83-67 victory.

The Bruins will travel to Peru State Saturday night (Feb. 13) for a 5 p.m. contest with the Bobcats.
