OMAHA, Neb. -- The No. 5 Bellevue University baseball team couldn't contain the Warriors' hot bats as they fell to Midland University, 9-1, on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Westgate Field.
Bellevue falls to 23-5 with the loss which snapped an eight-game win streak. The Warriors improve to 20-11-1 with the win which erased a four-game losing skid.
Midland entered the game hitting .348 as a team and out-hit BU 12-9 on the afternoon.
Midland jumped on the board first with a two-run second inning. Following a one-out double by Deven Ralston, Cole Gray delivered a two-run home run over the right field fence to stake the Warriors to an early 2-0 lead.
Bellevue got a run back in the bottom of the third. Connor Garrison singled with two outs, took second on a bobble by the right fielder, and came in to score on a double to deep right by Trevor Jones.
The Warriors created separation in the fifth with five runs on six hits while batting around. Zach Kinsella singled home a pair of runs, Dylan Steyer and Brandon Metoyer both drove in runs on doubles, and Ralston singled home a run putting Midland up 7-1.
Steyer extended the Midland lead to 9-1 with a two-run home run to left in the seventh.
Leland Tilley (5-1, 3.05), making his first start of the season for the Bruins, worked four innings and took the loss.
Justin Meyer (2-0, 3.86) earned the victory for Midland with six innings of one-run and six-hit ball.
Joe Moran kept his batting average at a perfect 1.000 for the year with a 4-for-4 day. He now has six hits in six at-bats in limited action.
BU returns to action this weekend when they host Dakota State University for a four-game conference series. The two teams square off with a 1 p.m. double-header on Saturday at Westgate Field before wrapping up with a noon twin-bill at Roddy Field on the campus of Bellevue East High School.
