Nelson Records Podium Finish for Bruins at Wayne State

WAYNE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's cross country team had another good showing Friday, finishing just thirteen points behind Division II SW Minnesota State at the Wildcat Classic hosted by Wayne State. Two other Division II schools, Minot State and Wayne State, finished one-two while the Bruins easily outdistanced Peru State for the fourth spot.

Freshman Madison Nelson once again led the Bruins with a Top Ten sixth place finish, running 20:15.6 over the challenging Wayne Country Club five kilometer course. Caroline Feig also registered a top half finish as she crossed the line in 15th in a field of 31 runners. Her time was 22:22.2. Other scorers for the Bruins were Sarah Felten, 20th in 22:51.6, Taylor Caba running 23:11.3 for 23rd and Alisiara Hobbs who finished in 23:46.9, good for 25th place.

Head Coach Craig Christians: "I liked the effort I saw out there today. We ran together at the start to keep the pace under control and then when it was time to race, everyone got after it. This course was much more difficult than the one  we ran on last week, somewhere around 30 to 40 seconds slower. We'll get on the Briar Cliff course next week and it is notoriously fast so I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of season or personal bests."

The Bruins travel to Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, SD, next Friday, Oct. 1, for the Briar Cliff Charger Invite. The women race at 3:00 PM.
