HASTINGS, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's cross country team finished in sixth place Saturday morning at the eight-team Bronco Stampede run at Lake Hastings Park under warm and sunny conditions.
Bellevue finished just four points shy of fifth-place Peru State College, post a team score of 161. Host school Hastings College won the team title, finishing with 31 points.
Freshman Lorena Ramirez led the Bruin women with a 30th place finish in the 79-runner field with a personal best (and school record) 5K time of 22:48, an improvement of over two minutes from the previous meet. In fact, all Bruin runners ran between two and three minutes faster than their initial outing with Dayana Montano-Salama slicing a whopping three and one-half minutes from her previous best.
"It's all about getting better and every single person on the team did that today so I can't ask for more than that," remarked head coach Craig Christians. "We are a very young and inexperienced team in terms of collegiate racing so I am proud of the fact that we can hold our own among established programs."
The Bruins will travel to Crete, Neb. next Saturday, Sept. 22, when they compete in the Dean White Invitational beginning at 10 a.m.
