Elena Pietro

Elena Pietro joins the Bellevue University volleyball program's coaching staff after a standout career at Louisiana State University (LSU), professional volleyball experience, as well as various coaching stints at the high school and club level.

As a defensive specialist and libero for the Tigers from 2005-08, Pietro earned AVCA All-American honorable mention honors as well as AVCA all-South Region accolades during her Tiger career. She was twice named the SEC's Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008, while breaking the LSU and SEC record for digs in a season with 703 and digs per game in a season with 5.33. Pietro led the SEC and ranked 35th in the NCAA in digs per game.

An excellent student, Pietro was a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was named an LSU Scholar-Athlete in 2008 and 2009. She was also a member of the LSU Athletic Director's Cup for Academic Excellence from 2006-09.

In high school, Pietro was named Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior in 2003-04. She was also a member of the USA Junior Olympic Volleyball team in 2005.

Pietro has experience playing professionally as a member of the 2010 Llaneras Professional Volleyball Team in Puerto Rico that placed second in the Liga de Voleibol Superior Femenino. Additionally, she was one of only sixteen female college players to be invited to the AVP “Go Pro or Go Home” combine in 2009, training with renowned beach players such as Karch Kiraly and Kerri Walsh.

Pietro was a member of the USA Women's National A2 Team that won the Open Division of the USA Adult Open Volleyball Championships in 2008.

Currently an assistant coach for the Premier Volleyball 18's Gold club team in Omaha, Pietro has also coached at various club programs in Louisiana for six years including Cajunland, Red Storm and Volleyball Baton Rouge. She has also coached at the high school level for Isidore Newman School in New Orleans.

In addition to her coaching duties at Bellevue, Pietro also works in the BU Marketing Department.

A native of New Orleans, La., Pietro lives in Omaha with her husband Joe, who played collegiate baseball at Creighton University and the University of New Orleans. He also played professionally for three years with the Florida Marlins' farm system.
