KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Pool play pairings were announced today for the 2021 NAIA Volleyball National Championship beginning Nov. 30 inside the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The field will be split into eight pools of three teams with the top team in each pool advancing to a single-elimination bracket, culminating in the national championship match on Dec. 4.
The Bruins' opponents in Pool H include No. 8 Corban University and No. 16 Ottawa (Ariz.) University. Bellevue advanced to the final site with a 3-0 sweep over Edward Waters University on Saturday at Bellevue West High School.
The action begins on Tuesday, Nov. 30 with the first of two days of pool play action. The top team from each pool will advance to single-elimination bracket play. The quarterfinals will take place on Thursday, Dec. 2 with the semi-finals on Friday, Dec. 3. The national championship match is set for Saturday, Dec. 4.
Ranked No. 11 nationally, Bellevue (24-7) will begin pool play with a 7:00 p.m. match on Nov. 30 against No. 16-ranked Ottawa (26-2). The Bruins will take on No. 8 Corban (29-2) at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 1.
BU has not faced Corban this season. The Bruins lost at Ottawa after taking a 2-0 lead, falling 19-17 in the fifth set on Sept. 10 in Surprise, Ariz. That loss snapped BU's seven-match winning streak to open the season.
This is BU's 14th appearance in the National Tournament and the 11th time they have qualified for the final site. Bellevue also reached the final site in 2000, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
With its victory over Edward Waters on Saturday, Bellevue now owns a 17-26 (.395) all-time record in National Tournament play.
