
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Eve Fountain and Jacki Apel combined for 22 kills to lead the eighth-ranked Bellevue University volleyball squad to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-19) victory over visiting Valley City State University Saturday afternoon in North Star Athletic Association action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
The victory marked the Bruins' eighth-straight sweep as BU improved to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in the NSAA. VCSU dropped to 5-13 on the season and 2-2 in league play.
Fountain finished with 12 kills on .321 hitting while narrowly missing a double-double after collecting nine digs. Apel hit a blistering .529 in the victory with 10 kills and just one error in 17 swings.
Haley Fleischman produced a match-high five blocks while adding four kills.
Sierra Athen, Olivia Galas, and Sidney Sledge registered two service aces apiece as BU held an 8-3 advantage in aces.
Galas finished the match with 34 assists, eight digs, and four blocks while directing the BU offense to a .306 hitting efficiency.
The Bruin defense, led by Athen's 14 digs, held the Vikings to a .110 attacking efficiency. Taylan Keefer added 10 digs and a pair of assists.
Katie Juarez paced the Vikings with nine kills, six digs, and a service ace. Bailey Nelson produced eight kills on .227 hitting.
Kallene Klever led all players with 16 digs.
The Bruins will host second-ranked Viterbo University on Friday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. in a key NSAA matchup in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
