Balanced attack propels Bruins to sweep at Southwestern Christian

BETHANY, Okla. -- Eight different Bruins recorded at least three kills as the 24th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-21, 25-7, 25-16) win at Southwestern Christian University in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.

Bellevue won its fourth-straight match in straight sets and improved to 29-9 and 10-0 in the MCAC. The Eagles fell to 3-28 overall and 1-8 in conference action.

Annie Benson was the lone Bruin in double-figure kills pounding a match-high 10 to go along with three digs and a service ace. Sydney DeBoer registered seven kills while Sunny Bell added six.

Setters Jordan Broady and Beth Walker combined for 32 assists as they guided the Bruins to a .295 hitting percentage.

Libero Meghan Evans anchored the defense with 23 digs and three assists.

BU used a 7-2 run to turn a 6-6 tie into a five-point lead, 13-8, as the Bruins posted a 25-21 opening set win. The Eagles outhit the Bruins, .267-.189 as BU was plagued by nine hitting errors.

The Bruins scored seven of the first nine points as they cruised to a 25-7 win in the second game. BU hit .379 with four service aces as five players recorded at least two kills.

A 7-2 Bruin run to open the final stanza sparked a 25-16 win as BU never trailed. Justine Buskirk (5), Benson (4) and Alannah VanGorder (4) combined for 13 of its 17 kills as they led an offensive attack that hit .333. 

The Eagles were led by Courtney Clark's nine kills.

The Bruins will wrap-up their four-game conference road trip when they visit in-state foe York College (10-18, 3-6 MCAC) on Tuesday, Oct. 30 for a 7:00 p.m. match.
