Rueth, Bell shine in sweep over Oklahoma Wesleyan

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Caitlyn Rueth and Sunny Bell combined for 19 kills and both hit over .400 as the 24th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-4) sweep at Oklahoma Wesleyan University Friday night in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action. 

Bellevue improved to 28-9 on the season and 9-0 in the MCAC. OWU dropped to 13-15 overall and 4-5 in league play.

Rueth collected 10 kills on .409 hitting while adding five digs and two blocks. Bell finished with nine kills and four blocks, while hitting at a .421 clip. 

Senior setter Jordan Broady dished out 25 assists while adding seven kills in directing the BU offense to a .281 hitting percentage on the night. 

Meghan Evans led the defense with a match-high 17 digs. 

Mandy Muncy paced the Eagles with 11 kills, but committed 12 errors for a -.024 hitting percentage. 

The Bruins used five kills each from Rueth and Bell while recording the 25-16 win in the opening set. Tied at 14-14, Bellevue closed the set on an 11-2 run. After hitting negative for the first half of the set, BU restored order climbing to a .212 hitting percentage while limiting the Eagles to a -.028 hitting clip. 

Trailing 23-21 in the second frame, the Bruins scored the final four points to pull out the 25-23 victory. Broady collected five kills to pace the Bruin offense which hit just .143 in the set. 

Bellevue used runs of 10 and nine points to cruise to the 25-4 win in the third, completing the sweep. The Bruins hit a blistering .565 in the third frame with 13 kills on 23 error-free swings. The 25-4 win was the most lopsided of the season. 

The Bruins will conclude their three-match road swing with a noon contest on Saturday (Oct. 27) at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Okla.
