Broady directs BU to sweep over Ravens

OLATHE, Kan. -- Senior setter Jordan Broady directed the Bellevue University volleyball team to a convincing  3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-15) sweep over Benedictine (Kan.) College in the Bruins' opening match of the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational Friday afternoon.  

The Bruins (15-5) will battle Baker University at 5 p.m. tonight in continuing action at the tournament. Benectine fell to 5-11 on the season with the loss. 

Broady set a balanced BU offense as five players including herself, registered at least eight kills in the match. She dished out 37 assists while guiding the Bruins to a .357 hitting percentage in the match and limiting the Ravens to a .117 attack percentage. 

Broady added nine kills of her own on .667 hitting while also recording five digs, three blocks, and two service aces. 

Junior Sydney DeBoer pounded 12 kills on .455 hitting while adding a match-high five blocks. 

Annie Benson hit .600 with nine kills and 14 digs. Courtney Hendricks and Symone Faulkner each drilled eight kills. 

Meghan Evans led the BU defense with a match-high 15 digs. 

Benson paced BU in the opening set with five kills on seven errorless swings as Bellevue scored five of the final seven points in the 25-21 victory. The Bruins used a balanced attack in the first set with five players registering at least three kills as BU outhit the Ravens .262 to .139. 

DeBoer collected five kills and three blocks as the Bruins cruised to the 25-13 win in the second frame. The Ravens were plagued by seven hitting errors and hit -.030 while Bellevue fired at a .353 hitting clip. 

The Bruins hit a scorching .472 in the final set with just two hitting errors while completing the sweep.
