Bruins sweep Central Christian twice to open MCAC play

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The 20th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team opened conference play with a pair of victories over Central Christian College on Tuesday at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

Bellevue has now won six-straight matches and improved to 8-3 while Central Christian remains winless, and fell to 0-6.

Caitlyn Rueth led the Bruins with 19 kills, six digs and two block assists in the two matches.

The Bruins will head to Baldwin City, Kan. this Friday-Saturday, Sept. 7-8, to participate in the Baker University Invitational.

Match 1: Bellevue 3, Central Christian 0

The Bruins hit a season-high .507 recording 41 kills and were paced by Annie Benson's 13 kills en route to a 25-6, 25-8, 25-5 win in the opener.

BU tallied 18 service aces highlighted by eight from Andrea Johnson.

Jordan Broady, this week's MCAC Setter of the Week, collected 30 assists, five digs and three kills.

The Tigers committed 11 attacking errors and hit -.040.

Match 2: Bellevue 3, Central Christian 0

Beth Walker registered 32 assists, eight kills on 11 swings, and four digs to lead the Bruins to a 25-11, 25-7, 25-9 win in the nightcap.

Meghan Evans anchored the Bruins defense with 20 digs, as BU held a 47-27 edge in digs. The junior libero also tallied five assists and one service ace.

Rueth reached double-figure kills for the seventh time this season, pounding a match-high 11 to go along with six digs.

Alannah VanGorder and Courtney Hendricks combined for 17 kills and seven of the Bruins' 10 block assists.

The Bruins also recorded six service aces.

CCC was plagued by 16 hitting errors and hit -.090.
