Broady's triple-double lifts Bruins in four games

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- The Bellevue University volleyball team (2-1) won its second-straight match, defeating former conference foe Peru State College (0-3), 25-11, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17 Saturday morning at the Red Raider Classic.

The 19th-ranked Bruins will conclude tournament action later today with a 1:00 p.m. match against Doane College.

Jordan Broady, who led the Bruins with 10 double-doubles last season, tallied her first career triple-double, recording 43 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills.

Caitlyn Rueth notched her first career double-double with 12 digs and 11 kills. Sunny Bell led the team with 13 kills. Sydney DeBoer recorded 10 kills, two block solos and five block assists. Symone Faulkner was the fifth Bruin in double-figure kills with 10.

Beth Walker anchored the defense with a team-high 16 digs.

The Bruins out-hit the Bobcats .279 to just .090 and tallied 57 kills compared to only 33 for PSC.

BU used an 8-1 run to take an early 11-4 lead in the first game. After back-to-back points by PSC, the Bruins ended the game on a 14-5 spurt. Broady (4), Bell (3), DeBoer (3) and Rueth (3) combined for 13 of the Bruins' 14 kills. The Bruins hit .375 while holding the Bobcats to just .038 hitting in the opening set.

Facing its first deficit of the match at 3-2, BU responded with seven-straight points. PSC scored six of the next eights points, but that's the closest the Bobcats got as the Bruins ended the second game on a 14-5 run to take the game, 25-14. Broady and Bell each tallied four kills in the set.

The Bruins hit just .160 and were plagued by five hitting errors and three service errors as they dropped the third set, 25-22.

Leading 7-6 in the fourth game, the Bruins went on an 8-3 run to take control of the set. The Bobcats answered by scoring six of the next nine points, but they never got any closer as BU closed the match on a 7-2 run to win, 25-17.

Bellevue has now won the last 18 matches against Peru State dating back to the 2004 season.
