Wardian highlights all-MCAC volleyball team
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- Eight Bellevue University volleyball players earned conference honors highlighted by senior middle blocker Maureen Wardian who was named the conference's Player of the Year announced on Saturday in conjunction with the MCAC Volleyball Tournament hosted by College of the Ozarks.

Wardian is a four-time first team all-MCAC selection and ranks second on the team with 320 kills and 96 blocks with a team-high .359 hitting percentage. An honorable mention NAIA and AVCA All-American in 2009 and 2010, she has been named the MCAC Hitter of the Week three times this season. For her career, Wardian ranks third in block assists (444), third in total blocks (547) and fourth in attack percentage (.314).

Along with Wardian, Annie Benson, Jordan Broady, Meghan Evans and Kali Schnacker also earned first team honors.

After earning honorable mention all-conference accolades as a freshman last season, Benson was named to the first team in 2011. The sophomore from Springfield-Platteview high school is third on the team in kills with 280.

Broady, a three-time first team all-MCAC selection, leads the conference with 1,301 assists and has also recorded 266 digs, 83 kills, 54 blocks and 33 service aces. Broady has earned MCAC Setter of the Week nine times this season and ranks second in school history with 4,148 career assists. Broady has a team-high 10 double-doubles this season.

Evans has played in all 33 matches as the Bruins' libero and has notched a team-high 470 digs and ranks second on the team with 27 service aces. She was named the MCAC Libero of the Week on Sept. 19.

Schnacker paces the team with 329 kills and has also recorded 67 digs and 62 total blocks. The senior rightside hitter was named the MCAC Hitter of the Week on Sept. 26 and ranks sixth all-time in career kills with 1,386. This marks the second straight season she has been named to the first team after earning second team accolades in 2009.

Freshman standout Sunny Bell earned second team all-conference honors after recording 222 kills and 30 blocks in 25 matches. Bell suffered a knee injury against York College on Oct. 18 and is out for the season.

Joining Bell on the second team was sophomore middle blocker Sydney DeBoer who has tallied 131 kills and leads the team with 99 total blocks.

Defensive specialist Mollie Gavin earned honorable mention honors. The junior transfer has played in all 33 matches this season, recording 301 digs and 27 service aces.

The Bruins will battle 24th-ranked College of the Ozarks in the championship match of the MCAC Tournament at noon. The winner will earn an automatic bid into the NAIA National Championships.
