Goals galore as BU tops Florida College in CAC action

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team equaled a season-high with five goals in a 5-0 win over Florida College on Thursday evening.

Ketlyn Rota opened the goal-scoring with a ninth minute strike, her first of the season, with assists going to Ximena Jauregui and Maju Serrano.

Katrina Avila scored in the 17th minute to double the lead with Jauregui collecting another assist as BU took a 2-0 lead into the break.

Two goals less than three minutes apart in the second half removed any lingering doubt about the outcome as Avila found her second goal of the game in the 50th minute before Emma Madej scored her team-leading 11th goal in the 53rd. Avila's second goal gave her three on the year.

Lauren Chetty scored her first goal of the year, providing an insurance tally in the 62nd minute off a pass from Taylan Murphey.

Bellevue peppered the Falcon defense with a season-high 21 shots on goal, out-shooting FC 30-10 overall and 21-2 on goal. The Bruins also collected 10 corners to Florida College's two.

Gabriella Peralta stopped 12 of 16 shots on goal she faced and Jillian Francis allowed a goal on the lone shot on target she saw.

Alessia Ricciardi stopped the lone shot on goal she faced to pick up her sixth shutout. The shutout was the third-straight posted by BU and seventh on the season.

Bellevue wraps up regular season action with a 10 a.m. kick-off on Saturday, Oct. 21 in Sarasota, Fla. against New College of Florida.
