Finishing fails BU in loss to Tigers

MITCHELL, S.D. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team put 15 shots on frame but were unable to find the back of the net as they fell 2-0 to Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday evening.

Bellevue: 1-1-0
Dakota Wesleyan: 1-0-1

DWU 2, Bruins 0

Jade Wesley opened the scoring with a strike in the 32nd minute to give the host DWU a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers took that advantage into halftime, despite being out-shot 12-5 in the opening 45 minutes.

The Tigers got a second goal on a fortuitous bounce. Sabrina Staufenbiel came off her line for but her clearance ricocheted off Josephine Bardsley's leg by the edge of the 18 and bounced into the vacated goal.

Shots came easy for the Bruins as Bellevue finished the game with a 22-13 advantage in shots, putting 15 on target to 10 for Dakota Wesleyan.

DWU's Isabella Gregg totaled 13 saves in goal while Staufenbiel stopped seven shots for Bellevue. The Bruins won all seven corners in the game.

A total of 10 Bellevue players recorded shots on goal in the game with Bruna Bielski pacing the attack with four shots on goal.

Coach Tom White:

"That's football sometimes. We created a copious amount of chances but just couldn't find the net today. We played really well but conceded two sloppy goals. We recover and prepare for Saturday."
