Martinez, National Champion, signs with BU

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head women's soccer coach Tom White has announced the signing of Paula Martinez Miranda (Barcelona, Spain/Tyler JC/IES La Mallola) to a Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.

The daughter of Jose Martinez and Irma Miranda, Paula comes to Bellevue after transferring from Tyler Community College in Tyler, Texas. Prior to beginning her collegiate journey, she attended IES La Mallola in her native Spain.

Martinez was the fourth-leading goal-scorer this past season for Tyler, scoring eight times and recording four assists. She helped the Apaches to a 22-1-0 overall mark as Tyler went on to claim conference, regional, and district titles en route to a dominating 4-1 triumph in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Game.

"We are excited Paula has committed to Bellevue. Paula has a wide range of experience from playing in Spain to winning a National Title here in the States. Her mentality will gel well with the her Bruin teammates and she will help us reach the next level!"

Martinez joins earlier signees Emma Stock (Bellevue, Neb./Papillion-La Vista South HS), Sinai Bernal (Bennington, Neb./Elkhorn HS), Jaycee Billings (Papillion, Neb./Gross Catholic HS), Britney Nolte (Springfield, Neb./Platteview HS), Millie Hopkisson (Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England/Johnson County CC), Jenna Curtis (Plattsmouth, Neb./Conestoga HS), Morgan McIlnay (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS), and Bruna Cola Bielski (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Iowa Central CC/Vasco de Gama HS) in the Bruins' 2020 recruiting class.

Bellevue finished the 2019 season at 6-6-3 and qualified for the A.I.I. Tournament in Lawrenceville, Ga.
