Women’s Soccer sweeps weekly NSAA awards

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University seniors Betsy Fischenich and Kate Petersen were honored by the North Star Athletic Association today when it was announced that each won women's soccer weekly honors. Fischenich was named the NSAA Offensive Players of the Week while Petersen was tabbed as NSAA Defensive Player of the Week.

Fischenich scored the game-winning goal in Bellevue's 2-0 victory over Sterling on Saturday afternoon, her third goal of the season. She followed that up by assisting on all three Bruin goals in a 3-0 victory over Bethany on Sunday. Fischenich had seven shots (four on goal) for the week as the Bruins extended their winning streak to four matches. She currently leads the Bruins in both assists (3) and points (9) while ranking second on the squad with three goals.

Petersen scored a put-away goal in Bellevue's 2-0 victory over Sterling on Saturday and led a back line that recorded a pair of shutouts on the week. She helped limit Sterling to just four shots and Bethany to five shots as the Bruins extended their shutout streak to three matches. Petersen now has two goals on the season which ranks third on the team and tops among defenders. Bellevue has a team goals against average of 1.00 and have allowed just 47 shots (26 on goal).

Bellevue (4-2-0) hosts a pair of matches – their first home dates of the season – on Thursday and Sunday. The 16th-ranked Bruins welcome (RV) Midland to Bellevue Soccer Club at 5 p.m. on Thursday and No. 13 Hastings at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
