St. Ambrose defeats Bruins, 3-1

DES MOINES, Iowa -- St. Ambrose scored two early goals and then held on for a 3-1 victory over Bellevue University in non-conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Bruins to 8-4 overall on the season, while St. Ambrose improved to 12-1 overall.

The Queen Bees held a 13-8 advantage in shots while recording their sixth-straight win. St. Ambrose's lone loss this season was a 3-1 setback to NCAA Division I Western Illinois on Sept. 20.

Both teams are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll.

The Bruins avoided the shutout with senior Jenna Pendley's goal in the 77th minute that cut the SAU lead to 2-1. It was Pendley's team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Bellevue returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 13 when the Bruins host William Jewell in a 5 p.m. contest at Tranquility Park.
