OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior Whitney Ferguson's goal from the left side of the box with 1:27 left in the game lifted the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a dramatic come-from-behind 2-1 win over Mount Mercy Sunday afternoon at Tranquility Park.
The Bruins, who trailed 1-0 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game, improved to 2-0 on the season. Mount Mercy fell to 1-1 overall.
After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs took the lead with just over 29 minutes remaining in the game when Beth Samek lobbed a shot over BU's Sarah Boone from the top of the box.
Bellevue knotted the game after Meredith Shuman found the back of the net on a corner kick pass from Jenna Pendley.
The Bruins got the game winner when Anastasia Dascalos fed the ball to Ferguson on the left side of the box with just over a minute left in the game.
Bellevue outshot Mount Mercy 37-9 in the game and held a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal, including a game-high four from Ferguson.
The Bruins will head to Helena, Mont. next Friday and Sunday for the Carroll College Classic.
