Bruins run away with title at Viking Classic

ANKENY, Iowa -- The Bellevue University women's golf team had no trouble maintaining their big lead in round two of the Grand View Spring Viking Classic at Otter Creek Golf Course on Tuesday. For the second day in a row, the Bruins posted the lowest team score in the field, shooting a collective 4-over 290.

The Bruins had four of the top five finishers at the event to cruise to the team title with a two-round score of 581, 20 strokes ahead of second place Iowa Western Community College. Dakota Wesleyan (633), Grand View (646), and Clarke (656) rounded out the field.

Wendy Monfort paced the Bruins, with a team-best 1-under 70 second round to place second among individuals, two strokes off the pace of Sena Ersoy (Iowa Western CC).

All six Bellevue golfers shot 79 or better on the day with four coming with two strokes of par or better. Maria Saavedra was a 1-over 72. Natalia Soria and Karissa Moreland each recorded 2-over 74's. Renee Santoyo – playing as an individual – shot 76 and Ivane Helias checked out with a 79.

Bellevue returns to play Monday-Tuesday, Apr. 25-26 with the North Star Athletic Association Championships at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. Scores carry over from the fall and Bellevue owns a commanding 50-stroke lead over the field.
