LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team is currently in seventh place after the first day of competition at the season-opening Chip-N Club Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The tournament, which is being played at Wilderness Ridge, consists of three rounds, with 36 holes being played on Monday's opening day.
Bellevue is the only non-NCAA Division I team in the the 10-team tournament field.
Ohio State leads the tournament with a 19-over par 36-hole total of 595 (295-300). Bellevue is in seventh with a 626 (317-309) total.
Natalia Soria was the top Bruin golfer on the day and is currently tied for 22nd place with a 10-over par 36-hole total of 154 (78-76). Renee Santoyo is tied for 27th at 12-over par after firing a 156 (80-76) on the day. Maria Saavedra shot BU's top round in the morning with a 5-over 77 and is currently tied for 31st place with a 13-over par total of 157 (77-80).
Charlene Dubois sits in a tie for 40th place with a 159 (82-77) total. Rounding out the Bruin scoring was Karissa Moreland, who finished Monday with a 166 (85-81) total.
Individually, Samantha Stewart of Wichita State leads the 62-player field after shooting an even par total of 144 (71-73).
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday (Sept. 9) with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
