Bruins announce addition of Smith to 2020 Class

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head women's basketball coach Dave Denly has announced the signing of Shareece Smith (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Iowa Lakes CC/Fort Dodge Senior HS) to a Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.

Smith, a 5-5 point guard, comes to Bellevue from Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa where she was a two-year starter for the Lakers who went 40-21 in her time on campus. She scored over 800 points, dished out 206 assists, and notched 141 steals in 59 career games.

At Iowa Lakes, Smith was a second team ICCAC All-Region selection after helping the Lakers to a 19-11 overall record. She led the team in both scoring (12.9 PPG) and rebounding (6.9 RPG) this past season while ranking fourth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage at 35.9 percent in 92 attempts. Additionally, she shot 82.8 percent in 122 trips to the free throw line.

This past season, she scored in double figures 20 times, including registering four 20-point games on the season. Smith scored 20-plus points three times n a four-game stretch from Jan. 29-Feb. 8 as she averaged 20 points, on 48 percent shooting from the floor, and 8.5 rebounds while totaling 14 steals.

Smith joins earlier signees Aminah Hall (Denton, Texas/Braswell HS) and Shelby Little (Holiday Island, Ark./Eureka Springs HS) in the Bruins' 2020 recruiting class.

In just the fourth season of its existence, the Bruins posted their second-straight 20-win campaign in 2019-20 and claimed a share of the NSAA Regular Season title for the second consecutive season.
