OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team saw its 17-game winning streak snapped in a doubleheader split with MidAmerica Nazarene University in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Roy Smith Field.
The Bruins won the first contest 4-2 before falling in the nightcap, 5-0.
BU is now 33-10 on the season. MNU moved to 24-16 overall.
The Bruins will travel to Madison, S.D., on Thursday (Apr. 27) for a 3 p.m. NSAA doubleheader at Dakota State University.
Game 1: Bellevue 4, MNU 2
Lauren Jurek earned the win in the circle and shined at the plate as well, as BU earned the 4-2 win in the opener.
Jurek went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the BU offense.
The Pioneers grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single to center field by Kayleigh Bayless.
BU took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run single up the middle by Jurek and on a bases-loaded fielder's choice RBI by Ashley Young.
The Bruins added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to left field by Sami Reding, extending the BU lead to 4-1.
MNU took advantage of a pair of BU fielding errors to plate a run in the top of the seventh inning before Jurek induced a groundout to earn her 10th win of the season. Jurek (10-2) allowed seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Grace Berlage (8-9) suffered the loss, scattering three hits with six walks and six strikeouts in six innings in the circle.
Game 2: MNU 5, Bellevue 0
The Pioneers outhit BU, 10-5, and used a three-run third inning to propel MNU to the 5-0 shutout victory in the nightcap.
MNU used an RBI single to deep center field by Alli Vanlanker to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second frame.
Back-to-back two-out RBI doubles by Bayless and Kelly Stoakes and an RBI single to center field by Londin Fiorella increased the Pioneer advantage to 4-0 in the top of the third inning.
The Pioneers added a run in the fifth following a throwing error by shortstop Alexa Sidel, making it 5-0.
Katie Cunningham (10-5) was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.
Hannah Etzel tossed a five-hit complete-game shutout to earn her third win of the season.
