McMurtry, Cunningham garner weekly conference honors

MADISON, S.D. -- Freshmen Katie Cunningham and Liana McMurtry were both honored today with weekly North Star Athletic Association honors in an announcement made by the league office. Cunningham was named the NSAA Pitcher of the Week, while McMurtry nabbed NSAA Player of the Week accolades.

Cunningham, who earned the honor for the third time this season, picked up a win and a save in the Bruins' two victories this week at Mayville State University. She gave up three runs on two hits with four strikeouts in BU's 7-3 win over MSU. She followed that up by earning the save in the nightcap, not allowing a hit in the final inning of Bellevue's 3-2 victory over the Comets.

On the season, Cunningham leads the Bruins with 13 wins, three saves, and 114 strikeouts.

McMurtry batted .667 on the week, going 4-for-6 with an RBI, including the first home run of her career. She went 3-for-3 in BU's 7-3 win over MSU while notching her first home run in the nightcap.

The Bruins, who won the NSAA regular-season title, earned the No. 1 seed in this week's NSAA Tournament which will be played May 5-7 in Watertown S.D. at the Premier Softball Complex.

Bellevue finished the regular season with a 38-11 overall record and a 24-2 mark in the NSAA. The Bruins are riding a 14-game winning streak heading into the NSAA Tournament. BU is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

Times and pairings for the NSAA Tournament will be announced later today.
